First let me apologize for the delay in getting this post up. We had quite an eventful day yesterday. I’ll get to that in a minute. Ok so yesterday was my first weigh in since I started back to working out. I lost 2 lbs! I would be excited about that, except normally my first week pulls between a 3-5 lbs lost, mostly due to water. While I did up my intake in water last week, I know I didn’t drink as much as I should, mostly because I just wasn’t thirsty. So I am hoping this coming week will be better. 1-2 lbs is average but the first week is usually higher. At least I didn’t gain! lol
Ok so the reason for the delay in posting is because we now have 4 newborn kittens!!! Sami, our stray we took in, ran off the week I had my surgery and we did not see her for a good 7 days. I really thought she was gone for good. Nope, she had gone into heat and ran off to mate! It was a good month before we realized she may be pregnant. So I looked up how long the gestation is for cats and all the websites say 60-64 days average. So counting from the week I had my surgery I knew it was close.
Fast forward to yesterday. Yesterday morning around 10:30 I had just got back home from working out I noticed she was acting funny. We kept her in the garage since we have an indoor cat who is very territorial and wants nothing to do with her. She had a heated pad under a blanket for her bed so she was plenty warm. The closer it got to her having the kittens I wouldn’t let her out of my sight. We had put a box with some bedding in the storage room in our garage for her. Yesterday she kept trying to run in the house every time I opened the door and she would meow constantly at the door for me, which she never has done. If I walked outside she would run to her nest as if to let me know it was almost time. She would lay down and be completely fine as long as I sat there with her. If I got up to go inside she would run and follow me and meow at the door again. This went on till around 6-:630 last night. I sat by her most of the day trying to reassure her.
Finally about 7pm the first kitten made it’s appearance! I have never witness an animal give birth up close like that. Sami went right to work cleaning her baby and taking care of the afterbirth. She is such a good little momma! The next kitten came at 9:30, this one was born without a tail just like Sami! That confirmed to us that she is part Manx. The next kitten didn’t arrive till 2am! I was starting to get worried because all the sites I read stated the kittens would arrive between 10 minutes and 1 hour apart. After it was born and I saw it was fine I went straight to bed. Being a birthing coach for a cat is exhausting! lol I woke up to Bryan telling we had 4 kittens total! The first one born was the only one born with a tail. They are so tiny and super cute! Sami is a very good momma cat, cleaning and protecting them.
We will be giving the kittens away when they are old enough so if anyone would like one please let me know! Although I love cats, Sami will be getting fixed asap! lol I managed to get a few pics with my phone so the quality isn’t that great but enjoy! 🙂
