For every person there is a workout that works for them. Whether it’s crossfit, boot camps, zumba, running, having a personal trainer, etc, it all depends on the person and what motivates them. I’ve personally tried all these, with the exception of zumba, and I have learned something about myself. I need my personal trainer back. Today after my workout, I didn’t feel I got enough. I felt I could keep going. This isn’t the first time I felt like this. This bothered me after I got home, so much that I took my 15 lb dumbbells and did a few sets of walking lunges. It got me thinking about the overall picture. When I worked out in a gym, I worked out 3 days a week with my trainer and did cardio on those days as well, and on the other 2 days I did some type of cardio, either spin class, running, or the stair master. I spent more than an hour each day, sometimes 2 hours, and lost 69 lbs to show for it. One hour a day is just not enough for me personally.
When I worked out with my trainer I rarely missed. I knew he depended on me (and his other clients) to be there so I didn’t miss unless I absolutely had to. With the workouts I’ve been doing, it’s too easy to find excuses not to go if I’m not feeling it that day. It’s too easy to skip and get in the rut of not going and risk gaining the weight back. He held me accountable.
I am not saying that crossfit or boot camps don’t work, because for they do work, I’ve seen the proof of their hard work, but it’s just not for me. I realized that today. I didn’t have to think about it long either. I immediately emailed my trainer and asked if he had a spot for me and he does. So tomorrow I will be starting back at my old gym with my trainer again! I know what works for ME and this is what works. I refuse to “follow the crowd” anymore for fear I am missing out on something.
I hope this doesn’t come across as putting those other workouts down, cause that is not at all what I’m trying to say. This is about me, what works for me, and what I need to do to lose the rest of this weight. I mean, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? I just needed to learn that on my own. 🙂
