Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a great Easter weekend. We had a busy one but great. Thursday was “A” and “K’s” Easter parties at school. I’m homeroom mom for “K’s” class and was up late the night before trying to finish the treat bags and get everything ready. We had a breakfast Easter party complete with donuts and kolaches. They had the egg hunt right before. Let me just say that the egg hunts the kids have today is nothing like when I was a kid. When I was a kid they actually hid the eggs and you had to find them. These days they just lay the eggs out in the grass for the kids to just run and pick up. Also when I was a kid you got to hunt and gather as many as you could get before it was over. These days the kids have to find the eggs with their names on them and they each have the same amount of eggs. Where’s the fun in that? Ok, before the haters start in on me, I totally get they want to keep it fair, but I don’t recall being scarred for life as a kid because the kid next to me had more eggs. Is it just me or are kids being coddled too much in this department?
Easter was early this year and I was not prepared at all. The kids didn’t have one single item for their Easter baskets. I’m usually way ahead of the game, but it kind of snuck up on me this year. So after “K’s” party I went to go get all their goodies. My plan this year was to not have as much candy in their baskets and have more small toys instead. I’m trying to keep their sugar intake to a minimum which is hard enough without holidays. Plus I usually allow 2 weeks before I get sick of looking at it and end up throwing it all out. I did get them a few small toys but I ended up at Lifeway and got each kid a couple of books. I bought a few bags of assorted candy and evenly sorted it and they still ended up with more candy than I had intended. They won’t have a chance to eat it all if I can help it though. This year I didn’t buy very many Reese’s Peanut Butter eggs and I’m proud to say I only ate ONE yesterday! That is huge for me cause I usually have a hard time resisting them. 🙂 Even the cats got a basket with treats and catnip carrots!
Anyway, on Good Friday we went to my mom’s for a fish fry. Since I don’t eat fish (or any seafood) I ate a link without the bun. I figured I would at least eliminate the bread in attempt to keep my meal somewhat healthy. We hid (yes hid) Easter eggs for the kids to find and they played in the sand in my mom’s backyard. She just built her house so not all of the backyard has grass in it, but there is a huge area of sand that the kids thought would be fun to make sand castles and pretend they were at the beach. Needless to say their baths right before were completely pointless. lol
Saturday was our busiest day. I got up early and did a little shopping and then enjoyed a much needed pedicure. Like I said, I was not prepared for Easter this year and neither “A” or “K” had something to wear for Easter. (“J” was with his dad this weekend.) I ended up getting “K” several dresses for church and “A” several different dress shirts to wear for church. I went for just one each. I never stick to my plan! lol After my pedicure we took the kids to my mom’s church for their annual Easter egg hunt. This is the one time I totally understand just laying the eggs in the grass…they had over 10,000 of them! I mean how are you gonna hide that many eggs in one area? They also had a moonwalk and a huge blow up slide. The Easter Bunny also made an appearance.
After the egg hunt the hubby and I took the kids out to eat for dinner. We went to a new fave Mexican restaurant of mine. Seriously this place has the best fajitas! Plus I needed to calm my craving for chips and hot sauce. It’s my go-to cheat food. However my appetite went away fairly quickly after we started eating. The table next to us got up and left without paying and I overheard the guy tell the chef there was a bug in his food. Seriously I could have gone without hearing that. Now when or if I go to eat there again I’m going to have that in the back of my mind. So anyway when we got home the kids dyed and decorated Easter eggs.
Sunday I spent the entire afternoon relaxing on the couch. I put dinner on in the crock pot and made some mint cookies, but that is pretty much all I did yesterday. I needed to just rest. It’s hard to get my husband to sit still for long during the day but I did manage to get him to watch a movie with me. 🙂 I feel bad cause I didn’t get any pics with “J” since he was with his dad this weekend, hopefully next Easter he will be with us.
Was everyone’s weekend as busy as ours?
